Meet the Owners

Mary Jo and Bill McNally are the owner-operators of Fly Away Fly Shop, which opened in April 2000. Bill moved to Sitka in 1977 and Mary Jo arrived in 1985, both from the Midwest. Growing up with fishing backgrounds, it was a natural for them to open the fly shop to share their love of fly fishing with locals and visitors alike.

After searching for the perfect location, they found a quaint old house, built in 1897, located on the coastal edge of town, one block from St. Michael's Cathedral and next to Kettleson Library. In 2004 they moved the shop to its current location beneath the Westmark Hotel on the corner of Lake and Lincoln Streets. Primarily staffed by Mary Jo and Bill and their faithful Springer Spaniel Rosie, Fly Away Fly Shop became a favorite for local and visiting fly fishers. Mary Jo and Bill offer instruction in Beginning and Intermediate Fly Casting, Introduction to Fly Fishing in the Sitka Area, and Fly Tying for the Sitka Area. They look forward to meeting you and helping to make your fly fishing experience in Sitka a memorable one.
