Before You Go
Before you go fishing on the water around Sitka, it is important to know the weather conditions, forecast, and tides. These are the resources we use in planning every trip:
The coastal waters forecast for Southeast Alaska is our local marine weather forecast. Please note that the area, “Cape Decision to Cape Edgecumbe” is South of Sitka and the area “Cape Edgecumbe to Cape Fairweather” is North of Sitka. If you can’t get to a computer, the marine weather recording is available by calling 907-747-6011.
The Cape Edgecumbe Buoy – Station 46084 is the closest weather buoy to Sitka. It gives all the current and recent readings for wind, seas, and barometric pressure.

Housing While You Visit
In addition to local hotels and motels, Sitka has a number of Bed and Breakfasts. The hotels and motels are all centrally located in the downtown area, while the B&Bs are located throughout the city. There are cabins for rent on fishing lakes around Sitka. They are maintained by the U.S. Forest Service. Art for Art Sake
Linda Forbes, owner of Artist Cove Gallery, specializes in finding unique, one of a kind, pieces of Alaskan art work. Artist Cove Gallery is located in the middle of down town Sitka, on the corner across from St. Michaels Russian Orthodox Cathedral.
